2025 NECBL Home Run Derby

Final Round: Brennan Hudson 5, Glenn Green 6

Hartford, VT- The 2025 New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) Home Run Derby was action-packed and featured an unlikely winner, helping Danbury clinch their third straight derby winner. Kicking it off was Trevor Hansen (Manhattan), representing Bristol and hitting three home runs in the first round. Coming in after Hansen was Glenn Green (Memphis) from the Danbury Westerners, showing off a surplus of power by crushing five balls over the fence.

After Green, Ripken Reese (Kent State) came up to bat, representing the Keene SwampBats. Reese, also an All-Star, hit three homers. Next up was Matt Bolton (Binghamton) representing the Newport Gulls, having a stellar season at the plate. An avid home run hitter, Bolton was able to squeeze four over the fence.

Ocean State’s Brandon DeGoti (UMiami) matched his total in the opening round of the derby with two homers. Brennan Hudson (Georgia) of the Sanford Mainers impressed with a powerful left-handed swing. Hudson tallied six home runs in the first round with that total being enough to send him to the finals.

Nick Shuhet (Rider) of Upper Valley entered the derby to a massive applause from the home crowd at the Maxfield Sports Complex, home of the Upper Valley Nighthawks. Despite a plethora of support from the local crowd, Shuhet was only able to finish the round with one dinger.

Despite a team-leading four home runs thus far, Robert Stang (Dayton) of the North Adams SteepleCats wasn’t able to get one over the wall tallying zero. Jaydon Aukai Kea (Vanderbilt) from the North Shore Navigators was not able to get one out either. Will Lybrook (Harvard) from the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks finished with zero on the round as well. Nick Spaveta (UPenn) from the Valley Blue Sox was also unable to get on the board. Bringing the derby home was Jaylen Hernandez (Winthrop) from the Vermont Mountaineers. Despite being a regular in the NECBL Home Run Montages, Hernandez wasn’t able to earn a home run in the derby.

The final round featured Mainers slugger Brennan Hudson (Georgia) and Westerners pitcher Glenn Green (Memphis) facing off for the 2025 NECBL Home Run Derby title. Green surprised everyone, knocking six balls out of the park despite primarily playing as a pitcher, and only having three at-bats on the season. Hudson came close, but was only able to hit five home runs compared to his six in the first round.

After clutching the win, Green was ecstatic. “Not going to lie, my nerves are rushing. I’ve had three at bats this season, I’ve been rehabbing my shoulder, but my coaches believed in me and that’s why they put me in.” When asked how he felt about being in the derby as a pitcher, Green said “I thought they were just messing with me until I actually looked it up. So I did feel the nerves, but that’s why we got the best coach to throw it to me.” Even though he’s only had three at-bats this season and battled injuries, Green is feeling good. “It started off a little bad in the beginning because of shoulder problems I've been dealing with, but you know, the confidence in my coaches, helping me with rehab and a chance to still stay, it’s more than I can ask (for). I’m about to start throwing soon. It's been a great season.”
