Ocean State Waves vs. Mystic Schooners

Final Score: Mystic 4, Ocean State 3

Mystic, CT- The Schooners hosted the Waves for an incredibly close matchup as far as proximity and competition are concerned. Mystic did not let home fans down, striking first offense when Maddix Dalena (UConn) hit a two-RBI double in the bottom of the third to give the Schooners a 2-0 lead. David Mendez (Vanderbilt) followed up by scoring on a wild pitch, tacking on another run for Mystic going into the fourth.

In the top of the fourth, however, Ryan Gerety (Northeastern) laid down the hammer and hit a solo home run to let everyone know that Ocean State was still very much in the game. In the bottom of the sixth, Troy Reader (Notre Dame) added an insurance run on a single that would be even more important to Mystic than they knew at the moment.

The Waves, still feeding off of Gerety’s home run momentum, got to work in the top of the eighth. Ryan Gerety (Northeastern) did what he does best and drove in a run for Ocean State on a single, cutting the Mystic lead to 4-2. Coen Niclai (Oregon) turned on the jets, determined to do what he could, and stole home to put the Waves dangerously close to tying up the game at a score of 4-3.

Sanford jumped out in front in the first, scoring three before padding four more in the second. Zack Kent (Binghamton), Luke Jenkins (UNC Greensboro), and Peter Keblinsky (Southern Maine) had the early RBI hits for the Mainers. Down 7-0, Valley responded with three in the bottom of the second, before Sanford reextended the lead to seven in the third on a Sam Miller (Binghamton) three-run home run

Then, the tides turned. Down 10-3, Valley stormed back with a monster bottom of the third inning.
