Pitching Dominates in SwampBats Fourth Straight Win

Date:  Source: NECBL - Keene Swamp Bats

Lynn, MA - The SwampBats (26-11) take down the North Shore Navigators (14-20) 5-3, during an epic pitching battle after the first two innings of play, as the offense provided the burst that was necessary in innings 1 and 2.

Jayden Barroqueiro (Seton Hall) started on the mound for the Bats. He ran into some trouble in the first inning, but made an adjustment and retired the next 9 batters after the third run was scored against him. Barroqueiro went 5 innings, recording the win, allowing only 1 earned run, striking out 4, and walking 1.

Keene's offense started strong with a two-out rally in the first inning. Beginning with a single from Ripken Reese (Kent St), Michael O'Brien (Arkansas Little Rock) then reached base on an error to set up Nick Romano (Florida Atlantic). Romano slammed a three-run shot to take the Bats out to a 3-0.

The Bats continued their roll in the second inning. After back-to-back singles from Zach Thompson (Gardner-Webb) and Andrew Bell (Duke), Marshal Lipsey (Florida Atlantic) walked to load the bases with 1 away. Jack Herring (East Carolina) rolled a ground ball to shortstop that got bobbled, scoring Thompson from third to make it 4-2.

Kian Vorster (Louisville) and Andrew (Subby) Lepine (Stetson) combine for 3 innings in relief out of the bullpen, not allowing a single run.

After the SwampBats scored an insurance run in the seventh, it set up a save opportunity for Ben Dean (Duke) with a two-run lead. After surrendering a leadoff single in the ninth, Dean struck out the next three batters he faced swinging to finish off the Navigators.

The SwampBats now have a couple of days to take off for the All-Star break. However, they are sending nine players to the all-star game, including their coaching staff. That contest will be on Monday, July 21st at 5:05 PM, streaming on ESPN+.

The Bats are back in action as a team on Tuesday night, July 22nd, to take on the Sanford Mainers at Goodall Park. First pitch will be at 6:30 on ESPN+
