Horizon West Magoo's Get 8-2 Over Leesburg Lightning in First Game Under New Name

Winter Garden, Fla. - The Horizon West Magoo’s (Winter Garden Squeeze) got back in the win column after defeating the Leesburg Lightning 8-2 at home on Sunday.

For all homes for the rest of 2025, the Squeeze will play under their new name thanks to their dedicated partnership with one of several post game meal sponsors, Huey Magoo’s.

Despite needing the entire season series, Horizon West pulled off its most decisive win of the summer against Leesburg as they head into the 2025 all star break on a high note and still in playoff contention.

Just like the previous games between these two squads, no time was wasted getting runs on the board.

In the bottom of the first, Mason Mojica (Polk State) had arguably his biggest moment of the season thus far. He crushed a deep fly ball into right center field that landed at the warning track and brought home Caleb Scott (Bethune-Cookman) and Anthony Picciano (West Texas A&M) to put the Magoo’s up by two early.

“The first two pitches before the hit were definitely balls in the dirt that I swung at,” Mojica said about the moments leading up to his big RBI double. “And I stepped out of the box and told myself that I need to do something here to help my team get a win and I found a pitch I liked.”

Scott had a very active day in the field, being a part of and forcing several key putouts throughout the course of the matchup.

“Everything just kind of works off of consistency,” said Scott about his big day on defense after the win. “If you’re relaxed and consistent, then everything else kind of falls in line.”

The entire Magoo’s defense held the Lightning at bay for the majority of the game, with the visitors being unable to respond to early offense as they have been all summer long.

Neither side would score again until the sixth frame, as it turned into a pitcher’s duel at Horizon Park.

In the top half of the sixth inning, a wild pitch allowed Marco Mueses (University of New Orleans) to round the bases and cut the deficit to one with three innings left.

Horizon West took advantage of back to back walks with the bases loaded in the home half of the seventh to extend their lead to 4-1 and almost put the game out of reach.

Umpire disputes regarding issues with one of the Magoo’s relievers in the penultimate frame caused a balk and gave a free pass for Ryan Jenkins (Carson Newman) to take the last 90 feet and make it 4-2 in favor of the hosts with one inning left to play.

The Magoo’s put the final stamp on the contest in the bottom of the eighth inning when they got four runs across home plate to seal the deal and end their summer against the Lightning with a win.

Isaac Incinelli (St Johns River State) hit a two RBI double into outfield grass to bring home Scott and all star Zacharias Walker (Hillsborough CC). Then, Walker and Incinelli scored on wild pitches as the Magoo’s got the last laugh and pushed their lead to 8-2.

Horizon West heads into the 2025 all star break on a winning note and will be back in action against Deland on July 10 at home at Horizon High School at 6:30 p.m.
