North Adams Wins Fifth in a Row, Danbury Takes Back and Forth Contest vs. Valley

Martha’s Vineyard Sharks vs. Mystic Schooners 

Final Score: Martha’s Vineyard 8, Mystic 3

 

Mystic, CT- The Schooners hosted the Sharks for a battle of the New England shoreline. In the top of the first, Will Hampton (Vanderbilt) hit a solo home run to quickly make it 1-0 Sharks. The Vineyard’s lead wouldn’t last much longer, as Christian Scanlon (Merrimack) hit a solo home run of his own to put Mystic on the board and tie the game at one apiece. In the top of the fourth, Brady Krzciok (Central Michigan) hit an RBI single, giving the Sharks the lead again at 2-1.

 

In the top of the sixth, Ethan Puig (UMiami) and Jamal George (Texas A&M) each drove in a run after reaching first on errors by the second baseman to make it 4-1 Sharks. In the bottom of the sixth, Michael Torres (UMiami) hit a sac fly to cut into the lead and make the score 4-2. 

The top of the eighth would be a huge inning for Martha’s Vineyard. Brady Krzciok (Central Michigan) kicked things off by hitting a two-RBI triple to make the score 6-2 Sharks. Ryder Dykstra (Southern California) added on with an RBI single, and Kyle Cincinnati (Mt St Mary’s) scored on a wild pitch to make the score 8-2 Sharks. 

 

In the bottom of the ninth, Christian Scanlon (Merrimack) hit an RBI single to cut into the lead and add another run for Mystic, but that would be all they could muster as the final score would be 8-3 Sharks. Angelo Pino (Fordham) collected six of the Vineyard’s eight strikeouts, playing a key role in their win at an away stadium. 

 

The Sharks head to Newport for a double-header against the Gulls on Monday, July 7th at 3 pm and 6:35 pm, while the Schooners host Ocean State at 6:30 pm.

Danbury Westerners vs Valley Blue Sox

Final Score: Danbury 8, Valley 7

 

Holyoke, MA – The Danbury Westerners defeated the Valley Blue Sox 8-7 behind a 13-hit game. The Westerners were the first to get the scoring going in the top of the first inning. Garrett Larsen (Yale) strutted up to the right-hand batter's box and launched a solo home run over the outfield wall.

 

The Blue Sox responded in the bottom of the second with a Wyatt Hunt (Monmouth) RBI single. Valley added another run when Rees Kozar (Niagara) singled to drive in one run. 

 

The Westerners responded with a Michael Iannazzo (Maryland College Park) RBI single; however, Valley was able to take the lead back with a Sebastian Mexico (Louisiana Tech) hit. 

 

Danbury added three more runs in the top of the sixth inning as Gavin Donohue (Sacred Heart) started the scoring off with an RBI single. That was followed up by a Michael Iannazzo RBI single, who later came around to score, capping off the top of the sixth. 

 

Valley tied the game in the bottom of the sixth. Andrew Loikits (Wofford) came home on a groundout, and Mike Lucarelli (Penn State) scored on a wild pitch. 

 

The Westerners took the lead with a Michael Strellecht (Binghamton) single, followed by an Aidan Paradine (Siena) RBI double. They added one more in the top of the eighth as Grayson Sparr (Stonehill) doubled to bring in a run.

 

Valley struck back in the bottom of that inning, adding two more runs with a Nicholas Spaventa (UPenn)  double. However, the surge wasn't enough as Danbut hung on to win the game 8-7. 

 

The Westerners pitcher Andrew Koshy (Maryland College Park) was credited with the win while his fellow Danbury pitcher Teo Spadaccini (Yale) was given the save. The Valley Blue Sox pitcher Harper McLendon (Murray State) was issued a loss on the season.

 

The Valley Blue Sox return to the baseball diamond as they head to Rhode Island to face the Ocean State Waves Tuesday night. The Westerners are back in action Tuesday night as they play a doubleheader against the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks.

Ocean State Waves vs. Upper Valley Nighthawks

Final Score: Upper Valley 9, Ocean State 6

 

Hartford, VT – The Upper Valley Nighthawks soared past the Ocean State Waves, defeating them 9-6 behind a nine-strikeout performance. 

 

Upper Valley started the scoring in the very first inning as Nick Monile (North Florida) scored on a sacrifice fly. Cooper Blauser (Jacksonville State) singled in the second to add to the lead, making it two to zero.

 

The Waves tied the game in the third inning with a Brandon DeGoti (Miami) RBI triple and a Ryan Gerety (Northeastern) RBI single. The waves then took the lead in the top of the fifth inning with another  Ryan Gerety RBI single. 

 

The top of the sixth inning saw the Waves add two more runs to their lead, extending it 3.  Justin Hackett (Bryant) did the honors, adding a two-run home run to his season total and making the game 5-2. The Nighthawks were able to claw back a run in the bottom of the sixth as Nick Monile singled to bring in a run.

 

Coen Niclai (Oregon) added a run to the Waves' lead with a single to center field. However, the Upper Valley bats woke up in the bottom of the seventh. The scoring started with a Cole Fellows (Columbia) run on a groundout. Kyle Neri (Rider) doubled to left field, scoring two runs. The strong inning was capped off by a Cooper Blauser RBI single.

 

Nighthawks finished the game in the bottom of the eighth inning with two more runs, an  Anthony Greco (William & Mary) triple and a Jack Spanier (Minnesota) single. 

 

Nighthawks pitcher Michael Bradshaw (Merrimack) was credited with the win and his fellow Upper Valley pitcher Mateo Wells (High Point) was given a save. Ocean State ace Bryce McKnight (Arizona) was handed the loss.

North Adams SteepleCats vs. Vermont Mountaineers

Final Score: North Adams 11, Vermont 6

 

Montpelier, VT – The North Adams SteepleCats stay hot, winning their fifth in a row behind an 11-run, 16-hit performance against the Vermont Mountaineers.

 

Robert Stang (Dayton) gave the SteepleCats an early lead, blasting a two-run home run in the top of the first. Vermont scored on an error in the bottom of the frame, but Stang delivered again in the third, as a RBI base hit to left brought the lead back to two. Collin Overholt (Ashland) brought in a run later in the inning on an RBI groundout, before Vermont responded again with a Sam Gates (George Washington) solo shot to make the score 4-2.

 

Vermont jumped out in front in the bottom of the fifth, as RBIs from Conlan Daniel (Wright State), Dominic Camera (Fairfield), and Kevin Hager (Cornell) gave the Mountaineers a 5-4 lead. North Adams wasted no time responding, putting up five runs in the next inning, led by an RBI double by Stang and an RBI single from Max Palinski (Wabash Valley). Defensive mistakes also aided the SteepleCats, as they took a 9-5 lead. 

 

Vermont responded with a run in the bottom of the sixth, but could not catch up to North Adams, who extended the lead to five in the top of the seventh. 

 

North Adams’ Nicholas Noble (Fairleigh Dickinson) earned the win, while Cole Mascott (Northwestern) was issued the loss. Owen Crowe (Mount St. Mary’s) and Thomas Sullivan (Franklin Pierce) were also tremendous out of the bullpen for the SteepleCats, as each did not give up a hit.

 

After a five-game losing streak, North Adams has bounced right back and turned it around with their fifth win in a row, improving to 9-14. They host the Keene SwampBats tomorrow at 6:30 pm, while the Mountaineers sit at 10-15 and take on the Bristol Blues tomorrow at 6:30 pm as well.
