Blues Capture Fourth of July Victory Versus Westerners
Date: Jul 5, 2025
The Blues got back in the win column on Wednesday night picking up a 4-1 win over the Schooners.
After three scoreless innings, Mystic got on the board in the top of the fourth thanks to a Nick Locurtro (Virginia Tech) RBI single to make it 1-0.
Locurto wasn’t the only Hokie making an impact though. Brendan Yegash (Virginia Tech) was on the mound for Bristol and he provided the Blues with a quality start. Yegash went five innings, striking out eight while only allowing four hits, two walks and one earned run due to his Virginia Tech teammate.
Later in the game, Jack Hopko (University of Rhode Island) tied the game in the bottom of the fifth with a sacrifice fly to make it 1-1.
Chase Hanawalt, (Fordham) Jake Neely (Arizona State) and Hunter Hoxie (Rutgers) were dominant for the Schooners. The Blues only had two hits combined against the trio over six and a third innings. With the game still tied 1-1 going into the bottom of the eighth without either team seeming to be able to get anything going on offense it looked like extra innings were going to be needed.
However, an error by Jack Harley (Stetson) allowed Mika Peterson (Brown) to reach base safely to start the bottom of the eighth inning which would jumpstart a Bristol rally. Peterson came around to score later in the inning off of a Nate Lincoln (Marist) single to give Bristol a 2-1 lead. The Blues played some small ball to extend their lead, Luke Nomura (Fairfield) laid a bunt down the third base line to bring Joe Tiorely (University of Virginia) home to make it a 3-1 game as Bristol executed the suicide squeeze perfectly. Jayden Novak (La Salle) singled in the next at bat to bring Lincoln home to make it 4-1.
Houston Tomlinson (Texas A&M) went back out for the ninth inning and picked up the save as Bristol got the win by a score of 4-1.
The Blues are now 15-9 on the season and are in second place in the South division. The Blues are back in action on July 4th at Muzzy Field when they host the Danbury Westerners for a 5 p.m. game.
