Gulls Offense Scores in Bunches, Overpower Mainers
Date: Jun 23, 2025
The Blues secured a late come-from-behind victory on Sunday night, defeating the Ocean State Waves 6-2 at Muzzy Field.
James Pazdera (Ramapo) made his third start of the season, going three and a third innings with two earned runs and four strikeouts. Despite walking five batters, Pazdera was able to limit the damage. Nick Kane (Sacred Heart) and Aiden Cook (Xavier) each pitched one and a third innings with no runs or hits allowed. Randy Ramnarace (New Haven) was the standout performer out of the bullpen, earning the win with his two scoreless frames and three strikeouts. Kyle Emmons (Penn State) pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn his third save of the year. Collectively, Bristol's bullpen pitched five and a third shutout innings after Pazdera gave up a run in the top of the fourth.
Nate Lincoln kicked off the scoring in the bottom of the first with an RBI single, scoring Jack Hopko to make it 1-0. Ocean State didn't waste any time responding, however, as Ryan Gerety scored on an error from a pickoff attempt at first base.
A wild pitch would score Zach Plasschaert to put the Waves up 2-1 in the fourth inning, with the Blues' offense still searching for a response. Once the bottom of the seventh rolled around, Bristol would finally answer. Following a stolen base from Hopko, Thomas Ahlers brought Hopko home with a run-scoring single to center field. Ahlers' clutch hit would tie the game at two. Shortly after, Joe Tiroly smoked a ball to right-center field that emptied the bases. With the Waves' third basemen throwing the ball out of play, Tiroly was allowed to score to put the Blues on top 6-2. He was credited with a three-run triple on the play.
With the win, the Blues became just the second team in the NECBL to reach double-digit wins, trailing only the Keene SwampBats (12-2). Bristol sits on top of the South Division with a 10-4 record, leading both the Martha's Vineyard Sharks (8-5) and Newport Gulls (9-6) by half a game.
Bristol's next game will be on Monday night, where they travel to Vineyard Baseball Park to play Martha's Vineyard. The first pitch is expected at 7:05, with the Blues seeking to extend their lead over the Sharks in the South Division.
