Martha’s Vineyard Sharks vs. North Adams SteepleCats
Final Score: Martha’s Vineyard 6, North Adams 5
North Adams, MA- The SteepleCats hosted the Sharks Saturday night, with Martha’s Vineyard pulling off an incredible four-run comeback in the ninth inning to help them secure the win.
Brayden Martin (Maryland-College Park) got things started in the top of the first inning when he scored from third base while Jackson Miller (Mississippi) was caught up in a pickle between first and second. That was all the Sharks would muster after one inning of play, but they would be back for more later on.
In the bottom of the fifth, Cuyler Baxter (Wake Forest) hit a two-RBI groundout to quickly put North Adams on the board, and give them the lead 2-1 all in one at-bat. The next inning, Sean Stephenson (Iona) hit a double, driving in a run to extend the lead to 3-1. Robert Stang (Dayton) followed that up with an RBI double of his own in the bottom of the seventh, which led to JT Thompson (Rutgers-New Brunswick) scoring on a wild pitch to increase North Adams’ lead to 5-1 after seven.
Martha’s Vineyard got their mojo back starting in the top of the eighth, when Max Kaufer (South Carolina- Columbia) hit an RBI groundout to cut away at the lead, making the score 5-2 after eight. The top of the ninth was even bigger for the Sharks. Cole Mascolo (Trinity) was able to cross home plate after a botched pick-off attempt, which was followed by Brayden Martin (Maryland-College Park) scoring on a wild pitch to put Martha’s Vineyard down by only one run, 5-4. Jackson Miller (Mississippi) stepped up to the plate in a huge position- one out, one runner on base, and down by one in the top of the ninth. Miller delivered, hitting a clutch two-run go-ahead home run over the left field fence to put the Sharks up 6-5.
Sharks pitching would hold the SteepleCats scoreless for the bottom half of the inning, pulling off an incredible four-run ninth inning comeback to win the ballgame 6-5.
The SteepleCats host the Nighthawks on Sunday, June 22nd at 4pm, while Martha’s Vineyard hosts Danbury at 7:05pm.
Newport Gulls vs. Danbury Westerners
Final Score: Newport 6, Danbury 3
Danbury, CT - In a back-and-forth and home-run filled Saturday night contest, the Newport Gulls pulled away in extra innings to secure the 6-3 win over the Danbury Westerners.
Brennan Phillips (Oklahoma State) got the start for the Gulls, and he was phenomenal. He went five innings without giving up a run, only surrendering 3 hits. Westerners starter Hayden Tarsia (Binghamton) also pitched great, allowing two hits through four innings with the only major blemish being a long-ball off the bat of Newport’s Matthew Bolton (Binghamton) to lead off the fourth.
Danbury struck back in the bottom of the sixth, as back-to-back home runs from Peter Link (Sacred Heart) and Jack Lutte (Denison) put the Westerners up top, 2-1.
Newport’s AJ Evasco (Kansas State) responded right away with a solo shot of his own in the seventh, followed by teammate Andreaus Lewis (Manhattan) joining the home run parade with a one-run blast in the top of the 9th. Lewis’s bomb brought the score to 3-2 in favor of the Gulls.
With the game on the line, Danbury fought back as Garrett Larsen (Yale) singled, stole both second and third, and raced home on a Kyle Garbowski (Quinnipiac) base knock. That’s all the Westerners would get, though, as the score through nine innings of play remained deadlocked at three.
In the top of the tenth, with runners on first and third, Newport’s Randy Seymour (Michigan State) came up big. He blasted the first pitch of the at-bat over the outfield wall, giving the Gulls the 6-3 lead on his team’s fourth home run of the game. Danbury would go 1-2-3 in the bottom of the frame, falling to 4-6 with the loss, while the Gulls improve to 9-6.
Newport has now won four of its last five, and gets tomorrow off as they travel to the Sanford Mainers on Monday at 6:30. Danbury drops their fourth in a row and gets the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks tomorrow at 7:05 in the Shark Tank.
Keene SwampBats vs. Bristol Blues
Final Score: Bristol 3, Keene 4
Bristol, CT - The Keene SwampBats bested the Bristol Blues 4-3 in a match that saw the top two teams in the league face off in a battle of giants. The first two innings were a show of the two giants sizing each other up, as their defenses were able to keep the score tied at zero.
Keene was the first to strike on offense in the top of the third when Xavier Perez (Houston) doubled to left field to score Marshall Lipsey (Florida Atlantic). Keene continued in the top of the fourth, adding a Nicholas Romano (Florida Atlantic) run to take a 2-0 lead.
Bristol took the lead in the bottom of the fifth. Thomas Ahlers (Keene State) singled to center field to bring home a run. Later that inning, Gianno Merlonghi (Central Connecticut) drove in two runs with a ground ball into the outfield.
Keene answered the three runs in the top of the sixth, scoring two runs to retake the lead. Xavier Perez was able to cross home plate after a ground out, and Jack Herring (East Carolina) was able to come home following an error by the Bristol shortstop. Keene’s defense was able to keep Bristol from tying the game, securing the victory.
Keene’s Benjamin Shenosky (Penn St) was credited with the win, and his fellow SwampBats, Jack Malone (Samford), was given the save on the night. The Blues ace, Vincent Spizzoucco, was issued a loss on the season.
The Keene SwampBats are back in action Monday night as they host the Mountaineers of Vermont. The Bristol Blues return to action tomorrow night, as they continue their home stand, as they face the Ocean State Waves.

Sanford Mainers vs. Vermont Mountaineers
Final Score: Sanford 8, Vermont 1
Montpelier, VT - The Sanford Mainers topped the Vermont Mountaineers 8-1 on Saturday, pulling away in late innings to earn their fourth win of the season.
The game was scoreless through the first three innings thanks to stellar pitching performances from Sanford’s Zachary Brassill (Southern New Hampshire) and Vermont’s Eddie Albert (Dartmouth). Both finished with five strikeouts, only two walks, and no earned runs.
Sanford struck first in the top of the fourth on a Brennan Hudson (Georgia) two-run shot. Vermont responded in the bottom of the frame, capitalizing on a passed ball to cut the lead to one.
The score remained 2-1 until the top of the eighth, when Hudson singled, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and to third after Charlie Jones (Georgia) reached on an error. Both were scored on a Brendan Sencaj (Bentley) double, bringing the score to 4-1 in favor of the Mainers.
Sanford added more insurance in the ninth, as singles by Brian Connolly (Rhode Island) and Blake Schaaf (Georgetown) and a walk from Jack Toomey (Boston College) brought up Luke Jenkins (UNC Greensboro) for a bases-loaded, zero-out opportunity. Jenkins delivered with a single, and an error by Vermont’s center fielder landed him on second, scoring Connolly and Schaaf. Toomey scored on a Sam Miller (Binghamton) sac fly, and Zach Kent (Binghamton), pinch running for Jenkins, came home on a wild pitch to solidify Sanford’s lead at seven.
With the win, Sanford keeps crawling back to .500 with a 4-8 record while Vermont slips to 5-7. Sanford hosts the Newport Gulls in their next matchup on Monday, while Vermont is back at it tomorrow at 6:30 against the 6-6 Valley Blue Sox.
North Shore Navigators vs Ocean State Waves
Final Score: Ocean State 6, North Shore 2
South Kingstown, RI - The Ocean State Waves defend home field after defeating the North Shore Navigators 6-2 behind an eighth inning comeback.
Following four scoreless innings, the Navigators scored first. In the top of the fifth when Ethan Wilson (Winthrop) smacked a ball for an RBI single. Wilson was then able to score in the top of the seventh adding to the Navigators lead.
Ocean State awoke their bats and exploded for six runs in the bottom of the eighth to take the lead. Gavin Greger (Bryant) started off the scoring with an RBI single. Both Greg Pettay (South Alabama) and Brandon DeGoti (Miami) were able to score off of walks. Greger and Kolton Reynolds (Northeastern) were able to score, adding two more to the inning total. To cap off the massive surge, the Waves’ Ryan Gerety () was able to score on an error.
The Waves defense were able to secure the comeback win after a 1-2-3 inning.
The Waves pitcher Rhys Bowie (Wake Forest) was credited with the win and the Navigators’ hurler Cole Yennaco (Merrimack) was given the Loss on the night.
The Ocean State Waves are back in action Sunday night as they head to Bristol to take on the Blue. The Navigators return after a day-off to face the Upper Valley Nighthawks on the radio, Monday night.
