The Goldpanners (6-4-2) wrapped up their four-game series against the Seattle Studs on Sunday. Power hitting and free passes helped the Goldpanners pull away for a decisive 13-3 victory in the finale.
Early home runs for Alaska got the team off to a sudden start as Griffin Harrison drove in three scores in the second and Bubba Rocha drove in another to make it 4-3 by the end of the third.
Neither team scored again until the sixth, which proved to be the deciding moment of the game. In the bottom half, the Goldpanners brought in six runs to put the game out of reach. Despite the total number in the frame, it was less explosive and more gradual, as nine walks produced most of the movement on the basepaths.
Two more runs came across in the eighth to give the game its final score of 13-3, seeing the Panners take three of four against the Studs. With the win, their record moves to 7-4-2 on the year.
At the plate, Rocha had a standout performance, going 3-3 with a home run as well as two RBIs. Harrison, the other home run hitter for the Goldpanners, finished 2-4 with five runs batted. Matt Chavez (2-4) and Mikey Bell (2-4) also finished with multi-hit games. The team collected 10 hits and 11 walks on their way to 13 runs.
The pitching performances were strong as well, seeing five arms take the mound for Alaska, combining for four hits, two walks, six strikeouts and no earned runs.
Brandon Wyland started on the mound, going three innings with three hits and no earned runs allowed. He struck out three batters and walked one. He was followed by Mason Robertson, Andrew Troppmann, Shaw Lee and Ryan Lachemann in relief.
The Goldpanners now turn to the Grand Forks International Tournament in British Columbia, Canada from June 25 until July 1 with games and start times to be announced. Their next home game comes on July 4 against the Ventura County Pirates at 2 p.m.
