WILMINGTON, N.C. –  It was a weekend full of “firsts” down by the shore as the Virginia Tech Hokies split a two-game series against the UNC Wilmington Seahawks.

The Hokies (3-2) opened the weekend set on Friday with a 5-4 win over the Seahawks. Freshman rookie Kam Khazai continued to produce eye-opening numbers as he recorded his first career hat trick on Friday night.

Virginia Tech came out energized on offense as the team scored three goals in the opening period. Dom Fantozzi scored his third goal of the season, matching his season high from last year.

Khazai, who had scored already in the first, tacked on one more in the second period, which kept the Hokies in the lead. UNCW would respond with three goals of their own during the second.

The third saw each team score one goal. Khazai once again buried his third goal of the night in the back of the net to earn his first career hat trick. Junior Ian Kee earned his third win of the season, remaining undefeated in games started for the Hokies.

Saturday afternoon's game against the Seahawks told a completely different story for the Hokies as they would fall by a final of 7-1. Despite how poorly the team played, there was a lone bright spot for the Hokies that came from Junior Gavin Peduzzi.

Peduzzi’s goal on Saturday was the 50th of his career for Virginia Tech hockey. He became the fifth player ever to reach the milestone and the quickest in program history to do so in 56 career games played.

This weekend was also the first ACC Premier League divisional matchup for the Hokies. As of right now, they sit tied for second with UNCW (1-1) with plenty more games to go within the division.

Ahead for Virginia Tech, they return home on Friday and Saturday night to take on the University of Delaware Blue Hens for another ACC divisional matchup. You can watch both games live on the team's YouTube channel as well as stay updated through the team's social media accounts.
