HARTFORD, VT – The Upper Valley Nighthawks snapped a three-game losing streak with a big win over the Keen Swamp Bats at home Wednesday night.
Brendan Walker (Stetson) had one of his best starts of the season as he went five innings while allowing just one run that came off a home run in the fifth.
Keene struggled to get anything going off of Walker who threw twelve first pitch strikes to 19 batters while also not allowing the first two hitters in Keene’s order to put a ball in play.
The offense started out slow but eventually found their footing in the fifth inning where the Nighthawks scored four runs after Marco Ali (Marist) led off the inning with a double.
The Nighthawks also had the help of three walks to help move the runners around the bases in the inning.
Kory Klingenbeck (Cincinnati) and Pat D’Amico (Seton Hall) each continued their on base streaks of eight and six in the inning.
After Walker was pulled, the Nighthawk, bullpen pitched four shutout inning while allowing just one hit to shut down the Swamp Bats offense the rest of the game.
Two-way player Nick Monistere (Southern Miss) closed out the game in his last as a Nighthawk on the mound while also going 3-4 with an RBI at the plate.
Monistere will depart from the Nighthawks tomorrow after having one of his best games this season.
“It was a lot of fun, It was a pleasure. Love these guys, love this team, love these coaches,” Monistere said.
Upper Valley will look to continue the momentum after tonight’s win with a double header tomorrow which features Pack the Max Night for the second game.
