WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, VT- The Upper Valley Nighthawks were on the wrong side of a 10-3 blowout against the Sanford Mainers Friday night. This was Upper Valley's second loss to Sanford this week.

After a thrilling eleven inning win against the Vermont Mountaineers on Thursday, hopes were high for the Nighthawks. Upper Valley brought out Luis Misla (SUNY Cortland) as the team's starting pitcher, and he dealt early on. He only saw seven batters in his first two innings while recording two strikeouts.

Upper Valley would strike first as Austin Beck (Angelo State) reached home plate thanks to Adarius Myers' (Louisiana Tech) sac-fly to right field. This solid start wouldn't last long for the Nighthawks. In the top of the fourth the Mainers' bats would start connecting as Logan Poteet (Vanderbilt) would tie the game with a solo home run that cleared the left field fence.

In the next inning Misla would be substituted for Jordan Goldmann (Le Moyne), who wouldnt start of his day smoothly. Calvin Hewett's (Vanderbilt) two-run double to left field would extend the Mainers lead to 3-1 in the fifth.

The day would only get worse for Upper Valley. In the sixth, Jeremiah Jenkins (Maine Orono) would score off Myers error in left field. Immediately after, Hewett would be back in the thick of it with a two-run triple, extending Sanfords lead to 6-1.

Goldmann's day would be finished after the seventh inning, his replacement Chase Adams (Southern Mississippi) didn't much more success. In Adams first inning, three runners would score for the Mainers, starting with Devon Bade's (SUNY Binghamton) RBI single to left field. Two batters later, Eddie Eisert (Virginia Tech) would join the party with a two-run single to left field scoring Hewett and Bade. In the top of the ninth Hewett would cap of a five RBI Day with a RBI single to third base.

The Nighthawks late game scoring would be a little too late in this one. Ryan Cesarini's (St. Josephs) hot streak would continue with an RBI single to left field, scoring Upper Valley's first run since the third inning. During the next at bat, Steve Harrington (Hofstra) would bring in Cesarini with a double to left field. But after a strikeout and two-straight putouts the game was over. The Nighthawks have lost six of their last seven games.

The Upper Valley Nighthawks will travel to North Shore tomorrow to face off against the Navigators in a doubleheader.
