The Milton Menace are moving on!

Our local Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) team went into Pickering to take on the Panthers for game five of their seven-game first round playoff series. The Menace were up 3-1 in the series.

The game started fairly well for the Menace, with Jared Coccimiglio opening the scoring near the end of the first period. It was assisted by Myles Perry and Nicholas Wereha.

The second period had a lot more action, mostly from the Menace players. Coccimiglio scored his second of the game as he continued his torrid start to the playoffs. Wereha and Perry got the assists again. The Panthers got themselves on the board with Nick Athanasakos scoring the goal. The Menace then took over the game. Three goals in a 1:45 span. Here are the details:

  • Nicholas Wereha (Jared Coccimiglio, Myles Perry) 12:08
  • Myles Perry (Jared Coccimiglio) 12:46
  • Aidan Hughes (Alessandro Petreccia, Ivan Fabjan) 13:53

Milton was up 5-1 after 40-minutes of play.

Unlike game four though, there was no comeback in this game. Fabjan added a shorthanded goal two minutes into the third. The Panthers would score one more time and that would be all. The Menace get revenge for last year’s OJHL North/West Conference Finals and beat the Pickering Panthers 6-2 in game five, winning the series 4-1.

Forbes Anderson was the netminder for the Menace, stopping 27 of 29 shots for a .931% save percentage.

Looking at the schedule, there is still one series that will continue. The Cobourg Cougars will try to reverse the series sweep by the Trenton Golden Hawks. They have one win back, beating Trenton 9-3 on Friday night. Game five of that series is on Saturday, March 18th at the Duncan Memorial Arena. Should that series end, round two of the OJHL playoffs will begin next week. We’ll update you when matchups are announced.
