McKay Hayes Named OJHLs NW Player of the Month

March 7, 2023, Mississauga, Ontario – The Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) announced today that McKay Hayes (Photo by Ray MacAloney / OJHL Images) of the Markham Royals has been named the Warrior North-West Conference Player-of-the-Month for February after he tallied 28 points during 11 games. His 12 goals included two on the power play and two game-winners.

In his first season in Markham, the 21-year-old from Ancaster,ON amassed 31 goals and 51 assists during 50 regular season games. He scored six game-winning goals for the Royals who will face the Burlington Cougars in the first round of the OJHL playoffs.

Hayes has committed to NCAA Division I Robert Morris in Pittsburgh for next season.

Hayes began his OJHL career as an affiliate player with the Orangeville Flyers (now the Caledon Admirals) from the Toronto Marlboros U16 team during the 2017-18 season. He also played for the OJHL’s Milton Menace, Toronto Patriots and Burlington Cougars. Total number of OJHL games played: 169.

Andrew Della Rovere of the Georgetown Raiders was runner-up to Hayes as the North-West Conference Player-of-the-Month. The Caledon East product had nine goals and 18 assists in 11 games during February. On the season, he scored 25 goals and assisted on 58 more in 53 games. Four of his goals were scored while shorthanded. 

Della Rovere’s Raiders are playing the Aurora Tigers in the first round of the OJHL playoffs.
