The forward has been selected to play in Saturday’s OJHL All-Star Game in Collingwood.

“I chose Bemidji because it was the perfect fit for me,” Chiddenton told the OJHL. “Over the many conversations I had with the coaching staff, I really like the hockey program they run and what it provides me as a contributing player. I believe their program fits my playing style perfectly, and they have the winning mentality and drive that I want to be a part of.”

The 19-year-old from Campbellville was traded to Georgetown by the Timmins Rock of the NOJHL during the 2019-20 season.

Chiddenton had 42 points (22 goals/20 assists) in 50 games during the 2021-22 season.

He’s already surpassed that with 57 (26 goals/31 assists) in 35 games this year.

Chiddenton, who had been talking to several schools during 2022, began  discussions with Bemidji in October.

“As an organization, we couldn't be happier for Rhys in reaching his goal to achieve a Division I commitment,” said Georgetown General Manager Mike Dukeshire,  “and look forward to his continued success on the ice with us this season.

“It's not only big for Rhys but for our program in Georgetown. I think the success our team has had this season has shed light on the talent we have in this locker room.”

Chiddenton has high praise for the Raiders.

“My time playing for the Georgetown Raiders for four seasons has been so amazing for me,” he said. “I have learned and have developed my game so much. During my time with the Raiders, the coaching staff and management have been so good to me and helped me develop as a player and also as a person.”

“The Georgetown Raiders are a great organization, they go the extra mile to give their players every opportunity to succeed.”

“Rhys is very deserving of this commitment,” said Georgetown Head Coach Shawn Snider. “He is an extremely focused and committed young man who brings it every day. His skating and shot are elite and he plays with an edge. He will be an excellent addition to his new school's hockey team and campus community.”

“Rhys means so much to our hockey club. He is one of our captains and provides leadership, he is our leading scorer and has scored big and timely goals for us. He is also a big part of our PK that is ranked first in the league. But overall, he leads by example every day."

“Rhys has a bright future in the game and I think his game can translate at the next level. I look forward to seeing him continuing to develop all facets of his game."

Congratulations to Rhys and best of luck in the NCAA!
