Chiefs alumnus Ataru Yamaguchi ( 2017) was selected in the NPB draft as an OF October 20. The Nippon Professional Baseball league is the highest level of baseball in Japan. Ataru headed to Colby CC in Kansas after the Chiefs and had  successful Tommy John surgery 2018 only to tear his ACL 2019 and getting back healthy for the 20-21.He committed to to Univ of Texas at Tyler and concentrated on OF and gave up pitching. In late September he went to Japan and worked out for 3 NPB teams. On October 20 he was selected by the Nippon Ham Fighters, the same organization that Yu Darvish and Shohei Ohtani played.
