Welcome home, Ryan O’Dell!
The Stouffville Spirit have acquired the 6-foot-4, 200-pound right-shot defenceman from the Powassan Voodoos of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League.
Also acquired was defenceman Cole Douglas.
Going to Powassan, near North Bay, is rookie defenceman Jaden Sturge and a player development fee.
O’Dell, 18, was a late cut by the Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey League this season.
He was selected by the Generals in the 10th round (193rd overall) of the 2020 OHL U16 draft.
O’Dell is a graduate of the Stouffville Clippers AA program and Richmond Hill Coyotes U16 team where he posted 17 points (4-13–17) during the 2019-20 season.
Douglas, a Pittsburgh-area product, is in his first season of junior hockey. The 18-year-old spent the past three seasons at Shady Side Academy in Pittsburgh.
The Spirit thanks Jaden Sturge for his time in Stouffville and wishes him well in Powassan.
