Jackals Claim Series With Dramatic Win

Date:  Source: New Jersey Jackals

Another sunny Saturday night here at Yogi Berra Stadium as the Jackals faced Trois-Rivieres for Game Three of the five-game series this weekend. Last night the Jackals walked away with two wins against the Aigles and were looking to clinch the series victory. New Jersey starting pitcher Jorge Tavarez tossed five innings letting up five runs.

The Jackals plated four runs during the first. Alfredo Marté hit an RBI single to bring in the first run. Following that, Justin Wylie hit a sac-fly to right field to bring in yet another run and Josh Rehwaldt hit another home run to score two runs putting the Jackals up 4-0 in the bottom of the first.

In the top of the fourth inning, Trois-Rivieres scored three, slicing the deficit they faced in half, 6-3. During the fifth inning, the Canadian birds had two homers, one each by DH L.P Pelletier and first baseman Connor Panas, respectively.

The Jackals led 6-5 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning. That's when catcher Jason Agresti brought in two insurance runs to improve the score to 8-5.

Trois-Rivieres wasn't done clawing their way back into the contest. Hansel Rodriguez, who relieved Tavarez, walked four in the sixth inning alone, including two with the bases loaded, that drew TR within one, 8-7.

Rodriguez struck out Raphael Gladu to end the threat. That's when Brooks Carey looked to the bullpen once more and called upon Jose Altagracia Ramirez. The former Major Leaguer would bear down and save the day for New Jersey, pitching the rest of the three innings, striking out five, including the emphatic conclusion to the contest, a swinging K of Elliott Curtis.

The Jackals will now face Trois-Rivieres for two seven inning contests tomorrow starting at 12:05pm. Tickets pre-purchased for Sunday are good for both games, as well as any bought online or at the box office during the day of the games.
