Jackals Open Longest Homestand of Season With Twin Bill Win

Date:  Source: New Jersey Jackals

The New Jersey Jackals and Trois-Rivieres Aigles played a double-header today to kick-off a five game series. Game one of the double-header was a continuation of a game that started on June 1st. The two teams got through half an inning before rain put the game on pause. The Jackals would get off to a hot start in the series sweeping the double header winning Game One 18-3 and Game Two 3-1 in seven innings.

Interesting fact about game one is that Edward Salcedo started the game on June 1st at shortstop for the Jackals, but has since been signed by the Aigles and started the continuation at shortstop for the Aigles. This means he played in one game for two different teams.

In game one the Jackals offense got off to a great start scoring eight runs in the first inning. Later in the sixth inning they would have another large scoring inning with seven runs. In this game the Jackals had five batters with multi-hit games and six batters with multi-RBI games led by Dalton Combs who had three hits and five RBI. The team also set a season high with five doubles in the game. The main offensive production in the second game was by Trevor Abrams who scored two of the three runs including hitting a solo home run. However Austin Markman got his first home hit as a Jackal tripling in the fourth but got thrown out at home. In Game Two Combs extended his hitting streak to 19 games, and Josh Rehwaldt extended his to 14 games.

The Jackals also got a strong pitching performance from Leonardo Rodriguez who pitched five innings only giving up one run picking up the win. Austin Smith got the save for the game after replacing Rodriguez in the seventh and pitching the final three innings. In Game Two, the pitching trio of Juan Perez, Dylan Peiffer and Jefry Valdez dominated the second game holding the Aigles to three hits with Peiffer picking up the win and Valdez the save.

Game two ended interestingly as Austin Markman had an incredible catch for the first out. Then runner's interference ended the game as Canice Ejoh got hit by a ground ball by Connor Panas to end the game.

The Aigles offense was powered by a solo home run by Connor Panas in game one but not much else. Then the offense was even more non-existent in the second game, only getting three hits and scoring their lone run on an RBI groundout.

Aigles game one starter Sam Belisle-Springer got charged for 11 runs all of them earned. However, game two starter Osman Gutierrez pitched a complete game with ten strikeouts holding the Jackals to three runs, but was charged with his third loss of the season.

The Jackals and Aigles will be back at it again tomorrow for game three of the series starting at 6:05pm. The game will have a hat giveaway and be followed by fireworks. The five game battle concludes with a double header on Sunday starting at 12 noon. Tickets for the game are available at jackals.com.
