In a Game of Rallies, Titans Best the Jackals

Date:  Source: New Jersey Jackals

Little Falls, NJ --The New Jersey Jackals and Ottawa Titans met once again today for the second game of their three game series. After a close game on Friday night, the two teams engaged in another nail biter on Star Wars night. The Titans would remain on the high ground, winning this one 5-3.

The Jackals got a solid pitching effort from starter Nick DeSalvo through the first four innings, only allowing one hit which was a homer to AJ Wright. DeSalvo would encounter some trouble in the fifth, where he was eventually pulled with one out for Gage Smart. Smart would give up two more runs in the inning before inducing a ground ball to Santiago Chirino for the third out of the inning. Austin Smith struggled with his command today and had three walks, but made it through two scoreless innings. Juan Perez came in and pitched two perfect innings.

Titans starter Jose Tavares had a phenomenal start pitching seven innings with five strikeouts and getting the win.  He had some issues in the fourth inning allowing three runs but outside of that falter, he only allowed three Jackals baserunners. Nelson Gonzalez picked up the save for the Titans pitching the last two innings and only allowing one hit to the Jackals.

The Jackals offense started slowly with one baserunner through the first three innings. The bats got going in the bottom of the fourth scoring three runs on four hits before recording the first out. That would be the only inning with multiple hits for the Jackals. They did have one last hope however in the ninth inning with a one out double by Justin Wylie, but the next two batters flew out to end the game.

The Titans offense got going early with AJ Wrights first inning solo homer.  Then after the Jackals three run fourth the Titans got three runs of their own in the fifth. The go-ahead run was scored on an AJ Wright RBI single, scoring Will Zimmerman. They would later add an insurance run in the sixth inning on a bases loaded walk.

The series wraps up tomorrow with a game starting at 2:05 on a Family Funday Sunday. Tickets are available online at jackals.com.
