Jackals Stumble Late, Lose 12-8 and Drop Series

Little Falls, NJ – This afternoon, the New Jersey Jackals (10-13) hosted the New York Boulders (13-13) to wrap up a three-game series at Yogi Berra Stadium this weekend. The Jackals looked to continue their hot offense while locking it down on the bump after Saturday night’s slugfest ended in a 16-14 Jackals win. The pitching matchup featured New Jersey’s Hayden Shenefield (9.95 ERA) squaring off against New York’s Danny Wirchansky (3.33 ERA).

The Boulders jumped all over Shenefield early on, posting four runs in the first inning, as the Jackals were unable to put away batters. New York’s second baseman Steven Figueroa proved to be a thorn all day long, collecting 3 RBIs en route to victory. At the end of Shenefield’s afternoon, he exited with 5 IP and 7 ER collecting his 4th loss of the season. New Jersey clawed back however, powered by home runs by Alfredo Marte and George Bell Jr, which keept the Jackals in the game until the late frames. Todd Isaacs would break through in the bottom of the 8th to put the Jackals within 2 runs, capping off a 3-run inning, heading into the final frame.

Unfortunately, Figueroa would put an end to the Jackals rally, as a 2 run homerun with 2 outs in the top of the ninth would spell doom for New Jersey, as Luis Gonzalez was unable to lock it down.

The Jackals will go on the road to face the Tri-City Valleycats before returning home to host the Ottawa Titans on Friday night at Yogi Berra. Tickets can be bought online at http://njjackals.pointstreaksites.com/view/njjackals.
