Jackals Hot Start Gets Rolled Over by a Late Boulder Comeback

The New Jersey Jackals welcomed the New York Boulders for the first game of a three-game series at Yogi Berra Stadium Friday night.

The Jackals came out on fire scoring 5 runs in the first two innings and that was all due to base hits from Alfredo Marte, Trevor Abrams, Edward Salcedo, and Dalton Combs. The Boulders would answer with three runs of their own but solid pitching from Jorge Tavarez would hold the Boulders scoreless in their half of the third inning

The Jackals would continue their offensive rally as Santiago Chirino would single into left field to bring home Josh Rehwaldt and the Jackals would take a 6-3 lead. The Boulders would cut into the lead with a base hit of their own to make the game a 6-4 game.

The Jackals would answer with Justin Wylie's 8th home run of the young season and take a 7-4 lead. Then trouble would strike for the young starter Tavarez as he could not find the strike zone and one half-inning later the Boulders would roll over Tavarez and New York would take the lead 8-7. The Boulders would add an insurance run in the 7th inning to take a 9-7 lead.

The Jackals would try to mount a comeback but the bats would go silent. They could only muster just two hits in the final three innings of the Friday Night Lights contest. New York won the contest 9-7. The Jackals home struggles continue as they only have two wins at Yogi Berra Stadium on the season.

The bullpen played well today with Nick DeSalvo coming in relief for Jorge Tavarez and he would throw three straight scoreless innings for the Jackals. The Jackals will play the Boulders tomorrow in another night game contest starting at 6:05. You go online and get your tickets for the contest at Jackals.com. It'll be Italian Heritage Night at the stadium, with a Wise Guys Jersey Auction occurring throughout the game.
