Little Falls, NJ- The New Jersey Jackals and Quebec Capitales met today for the series finale of their three game slate at Yogi Berra Stadium. The Capitales won the first two games of the series by a combined score of 29-4. However the Jackals would end the home stand on a high note, snapping the Capitales franchise record 13 game win streak with a 7-4 victory.

The Jackals got a very strong start by Jorge Tavarez pitching five innings, striking out eight batters and only allowing one earned run on four hits.

After no hits for either team in the first inning the Jackals opened the scoring in the second with a solo home run by Justin Wylie to take their first lead of the series 1-0. They would later add two runs in the inning with a home run by Jason Agresti and an RBI single by Todd Isaacs after Zak Whalin reached on an error in the prior at bat.

The Capitales would counter the Jackals three run second with two runs of their own in the top of the third. A bases loaded single by Kyle Crowl started the rally. The next at bat, Marc-Antione Lebreux would fly out to Todd Isaacs to end the inning and the Jackals held on to their 3-2 lead.

The Jackals would add one more run in the bottom of the sixth after a leadoff single by Wylie. He would then advance to third on an error by the Capitales pitcher Michael Austin on Josh Rehwaldt’s bunt single. Wylie would later score on a wild pitch. The Jackals would continue to threaten in the inning after a single with no outs by Jason Agresti would knock Austin out of the game with runners on the corners. However, Rehwaldt got thrown out at home on a ground ball in the infield and Whalin grounded into a double play to end the inning.

The Capitales would end up tying the game with a run in the seventh and a run in the eighth. The game tying run came on a balk by Jackals pitcher Austin Smith with a runner on third. Smith would go on to strike David Glaude at the plate to end the inning and leave it tied.

The Jackals took the lead back in the bottom of the eighth as Wylie singled for his fourth hit of the game and then scored on Rehwaldt’s home run. Santiago Chirino would then hit an RBI double to give the Jackals a 7-4 lead. Juan Perez would come on to pitch for the Jackals in the ninth and, despite allowing two baserunners, he got a 5-5-3 double play to deliver the Jackals their second home win of the season.

After this game the Capitales will be traveling home to face the Empire State Greys, and the Jackals will be hitting the road to face the Lake Erie Crushers. New Jersey returns to Yogi Berra Stadium on Friday to face the New York Boulders for a weekend series. Tickets are available for all three games at jackals.com!
