MPHL Kick-Off Recap

Rice Memorial Prep was excited to host the 11th Annual MPHL Kick-Off Classic at C. Douglas Cairns Arena in South Burlington, VT. Similar to past events, this year’s Kick Off was fast paced, competitive hockey! Of the 10 games played, 6 were decided by 3 goals or less. It was great to get back to MPHL hockey and over 150 patrons came through the doors of the Cairns Ice Arena.

Many of the coaches and scouts said they were very pleased with the game play, pace, skill, etc…many also mentioned that the league continues to be very evenly matched compared to previous seasons.

Gilmour Academy set the tone early going 4-0 on the weekend. They continue to show a great mix of speed, skill, and tenacity up and down the lineup.  Lake Forest also showed great speed and skill, combined with solid goaltending, going 3-1 on the weekend.  Rice exited the weekend with a 2-2 record.  Some inconsistent play hurt them in the 2 losses. Shady Side competed hard finishing with 2 points going 1-3 on the weekend.  St. Francis seems to have a young group that will grow and get better as the season progresses.  Again, all teams are still very much in the race.  This seems to be the most balanced the league has ever been. There are no easy games and no guaranteed wins. It looks to be another solid season in the MPHL!
