COACH WOLFE RUNS MARATHON FOR CHILDREN FIRST ON SUNDAY

Date:  Source: OJHL Cobourg Cougars

This Sunday the Cobourg Cougars head coach and assistant general manager Wes Wolfe will run his first full marathon benefiting Children First Canada, a national charitable organization that advocates for the health and well-being for children and youth in Canada.

Wolfe ran his half-marathon in 2019 and has wanted to try the full ever since - so training for 42.2K and raising money for this cause along with it seemed like a natural fit to the Cougars new bench boss.

The Cougars coach was motivated to contribute because “ the last 18 months have been incredibly difficult for everyone - but especially kids. The facts are jarring; youth suicide attempts have more than doubled, substance-abuse disorders have tripled, and over 70% of youth report the pandemic having harmed their mental health in some way.”

He also wants everyone to know they can help in other ways other than just fundraising. “Obviously the first would be to check in with the people in their lives on how they are doing - especially any children. Sometimes, we are afraid to speak up and let people know how we are feeling.”

If you would like to support Wes and Children First Canada you can donate to a GoFundMe page which is raising funds for Children First, as well as learn more about #codePink at the links listed below.
