The Prospect League's newest team, the Johnstown Mill Rats are gearing up for their inaugural season in the summer of 2021. Since announcing the new team, the Mill Rats have been more than pleased with community reaction.

"Johnstown has always been a great baseball town, and people are excited about the Prospect League coming to the city," said Mill Rats general manager Brennan Mihalick. "They're especially looking forward to the added entertainment and promotions the Mill Rats are bringing to the game."

Working with the City of Johnstown and the business community on various projects, including stadium improvements ahead of the team's first season has been smooth as well.

"The City of Johnstown has proven to be a great partner, and they're working hard on stadium upgrades and renovations that will benefit all of its users," Mihalick added. "Other community leaders and local media have been quick to step up and lend their support, and local businesses are getting on board daily. We're also seeing a fan base that's steadily growing before we even throw out our first pitch."

Prospect League commissioner Dennis Bastien says he knew Johnstown would be a great place for a team. "When I first visited Johnstown and met with City Officials, I knew immediately it would be a highly successful Prospect League market," Bastien commented. "We had communicated digitally for many months, but the warm reception during our first in-person visit and the hospitality I received was unparalleled. I was absolutely floored by how well-received and enthused officials there were."

Now, the Mill Rats' name and branding, which was unveiled mid-October, has begun to be recognized throughout the community.

"When I wear my Mill Rats shirts to places like the grocery store or when I walk around downtown, it seems to draw people in and we end up chatting about baseball or even just Johnstown in general," said Mihalick. I'm also starting to see other people walking around in Mill Rats gear, which makes me all the more excited to be a part of this organization."
