Leesburg, FL – It was a virtual David versus Goliath matchup Tuesday night at Pat Thomas Stadium with the Seminole County Snappers (2-4-1) entering the contest in last place against the league-leading Leesburg Lighting (8-3), and like the story, it was the underdog who came out on top as the Snappers knocked Leesburg down by a final score of 6-1. The Seminole County pitchers quieted the Lightning bats that had powered their team to two straight victories in their Saturday and Monday contests.

Connor Harris (George Washington) took center stage for his team, dazzling opposing batters with his arsenal over his two innings of work. He earned the win on the strength of his four strikeouts and while surrendering just a single hit and zero runs.

Prior to Harris’s appearance, Dylan Ross (Eastern Kentucky) set the tone for the ballgame, spinning together three shutout innings while scattering a pair of hits, allowing a walk and striking out four Lightning players of his own. “Hats off the Snappers pitching staff,” Leesburg manager Rich Billings said after the game, “they did a fantastic job tonight filling up the zone and keeping our guys off-balance.”

Overall, the Seminole County arms fanned 12 total batters, which, in conjunction with their offense made for a frustrating evening of baseball for the Lightning.

After averaging just two runs per game in their first six outings, the Snappers seemed to put it all together against a Lightning staff that was tops in the league with a 2.61 ERA heading into the matchup. Leading the charge was Maxwell Romero Jr. (Vanderbilt) who gave the Snappers the early lead with his two-RBI base hit in the top of the first inning. Later on in the fourth, Naphis Llanos (Lake Sumter State) would provide some power with a solo home run off of the most recent Florida League Pitcher of the Week winner Jude Ard (Tallahassee CC).

The lone run of the ballgame for the Lightning came off the bat of Gabriel Rincones (St. Petersburg) who drove home Robbie Scott (UNF) to advert the shutout in the bottom of the sixth.

Seminole County will be back in action Wednesday with a doubleheader against the Loggerheads. Both games will be held at Historic Sanford Memorial Stadium with start times of 10am and 12:30pm.

The Lightning will look to bounce back from the loss on Thursday in chapter three of the Bad Weather Brawl when they host the Storm 7pm at Pat Thomas Stadium.
