Grace Curley was awarded the 2020 Sanford Mainers David M. Ahern Memorial Scholarship.
She will be attending the University of New England in the fall.

SANFORD - The Sanford Mainers are pleased to announce Grace Curley as the winner of the David M. Ahern Memorial Scholarship for the 2020 year, despite the cancellation of the season due to the COVID-19 crisis.

Curley, a Sanford native, was named the recipient of the $2,100 scholarship to be applied to her post-secondary education. Curley will be attending the University of New England in the fall, majoring in Pre-Medicine Biology, while also holding a dual minor in Psychology and Neuroscience.

Curley graduated as a home-school senior, but was a frequent participant in the Sanford High School varsity sports program for softball and volleyball. She was also involved in numerous extracurricular activities with the school, as well as serving as a mentor through the Sanford Young Life program and other youth development clinics through the Sanford-Springvale region, as well as Acton.

The David M. Ahern Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to a Sanford High School student for continuing their education after graduation and is named after former player David Ahern (2010), who passed away suddenly in 2016. The scholarship is based on financial need, extra-curricular activities, demonstrated leadership skills and academic strength. The $2,100 amount was inspired by the No. 21 jersey Ahern wore during his contribution to the Mainers.

More information about the scholarship can be found on the Mainers website at sanfordmainers.com.
