Hockey player Kirsten Horney of Chatham capped her freshman season at Adrian College by winning the team’s Bulldog Award for on- and off-ice character and sportsmanship.

Horney had 11 goals and 12 assists in 24 games in the American Collegiate Hockey Association.

“The Bulldog Award is someone who embodies everything it means to be a Bulldog: grit, a great attitude, unselfishness, and just an all-around outstanding teammate and person,” Adrian head coach Hannah Griffin wrote to the Daily News.

“Kirsten Horney is someone who truly embodies all of these traits. This is a very honourable mention as a freshman and we are honoured and proud to have her a part of our program.”

The Bulldogs won the Central Collegiate Women’s Hockey Association’s Division 1 championship. Their roster included Tanya Candido, an ex-Chatham Outlaw from Belle River.
