Jonah Alexander of Toronto’s St. Michael’s Buzzers (photo credit – Shawn Muir / OJHL Images) has confirmed his commitment to join the NCAA Division I University of Alabama in Huntsville Chargers beginning with the 2020-21 season.
Alexander is a product of the St. Michael’s College Prep Majors program. He played his bantam and minor midget seasons with the Toronto Red Wings in the GTHL.
The 19-year-old from Toronto parlayed a 78-point (25 goals/53 assists) 2019-20 season into a spot on the Ontario Junior Hockey League’s 1st All-Star team this spring.
“He came into our program, started on the fourth line and worked his way up to All-Star, Captain and team co-MVP,” said Rich Ricci, the Buzzers general manager and head coach. “An easy-going off-ice character coupled with being a fierce throwback player on the ice. Jonah is a blend of skill and brains with an underlying desire to get his nose dirty.”
“UAH is getting a quality player and family for their program. Jonah is a poster child for student athletes at our school.”
Jonah played on a line last season with his younger brother and fellow NCAA Division I commit, Ryan.
Congratulations to Jonah and best of luck in the NCAA!
