The Western Michigan University Stallions are excited to announce their second commitment to the 2020-2021 roster, signing forward Rafferty Chaney.
Chaney, from Crete, Illinois, joins the Stallions after playing for Mid Cities Jr. Stars in the NA3HL. Chaney grew up on a horse farm in Illinois with a family of athletes. At age 10, a family friend encouraged him to play hockey and by age 16 he moved away from home to play Junior Hockey.
Chaney’s best hockey memory is making it to nationals with his first Junior Hockey team, the Decatur Blaze in the USP3HL. He enjoyed his team’s dedication and commitment that was shown by placing third. Chaney thinks he will most likely take up a career in corporate or technology sales after college, but he knows that he will be coaching hockey somewhere.
When asked why he chose WMU, Chaney shared that he likes Michigan, knows the school has a lot of big hockey fans, and that his sister also goes to medical school here. When asked about what he hopes to achieve, Chaney said, “I hope to achieve, on the ice, to always keep learning to improve my game, make a great team player, and encourage everyone to focus so we can win! Off the ice, I plan on achieving a degree in Communication Studies.”
Outside of the rink, Chaney golfs and skis every chance he gets to do so. He also plays guitar and loves going to concerts.
