Atlantic Hockey should just go ahead and names its rookie of the week award after Ontario Junior Hockey League alum Elijah Gonsalves.

The former Wellington Duke, Pickering Panther and Aurora Tiger won the freshman honour from the NCAA Division 1 conference – for the fifth time this season.

He was one of three members of the RIT team who received weekly Atlantic Hockey honors, announced Tuesday.

The trio was honored for their efforts during the Tigers' sweep of Bentley last Friday (W, 4-1) and Saturday (W, 5-1) at the Polisseni Center in suburban Rochester, NY.

Gonsalves scored two goals, including a power-play tally, in Saturday's victory after notching a pair of assists on Friday.

During the last four weeks, Gonsalves has led Atlantic Hockey with seven goals and tied for the lead with 11 points while RIT compiled a 6-1-1 record.

Gonsalves had 53 points (20 goals/33 assists) in 50 games with Wellington last season.

Atlantic Hockey spans five states, reaching from the Atlantic Ocean to the Rocky Mountains. Members reside in Colorado (Air Force), Connecticut (Sacred Heart), Massachusetts (American International, Bentley, Holy Cross), New York (Army, Canisius, Niagara, RIT), and Pennsylvania (Mercyhurst, Robert Morris).
