Weekend Recap: Calvin College

The Stallions met a familiar foe Friday and Saturday night, taking on GLCHL Rival Calvin College.

FRIDAY

Not much went right for the Stallions on Friday. After falling behind early, both teams went back and forth with chances. Calvin would make the most of theirs, scoring 2 in the first, 1 in the second, and adding 3 more in the third to win 6-0.

SATURDAY

Saturday night was a much different game, and the Stallions came out with a chip on their shoulder. Both teams traded chances early, however this time, it was the Stallions that would strike first. Austin Kozar ripped a shot from the top of the circle off the bottom of the Calvin goaltender's glove and into the net to give the Stallions a 1-0 lead late in the first.

The Stallions would strike again late in the 2nd period, as Tyler Creagh fired a shot over the goaltender's shoulder, bouncing off the back bar and out, giving Western a 2-0 lead.

Calvin would get one back early in the third, as Jacob Siebenga fired a point blank shot over Justin Thayer, bringing the score back to within 1. Calvin would continue to pepper Stallions goaltender Justin Thayer, who made 42 saves on the night, including an amazing backdoor glove save to maintain the Stallions lead. Shortly after, John Desmond beat the Calvin goaltender on a short side 2 on 1 shot with 5 minutes remaining, securing the 3-1 win for WMU.

The Stallions are back in action this weekend as they take on Eastern Michigan University. Saturday night at home will be Senior Night, so come on out and support the senior class as they look to finish the season strong.
