LIONS TOP MARAUDERS

Date:  Source: The College of New Jersey Lions

The Lions coming off a two week break took on the Marauders as they looked to stay perfect in Colonial League play. In the first period TCNJ had to shake off the rust but they would wake up late in the period as Ryan Anderson would go top shelf finishing off a great pass from Andrew Lem, they would take the one goal lead into the second period and out shot Millersville 13-7.

The Lions would break the game open in the second period as they scored 5 goals in a 6 minute span. First they would score on both ends of a two man advantage as Travis Beni would finish off a nice passing play and then Mike Hannigan would net his first college goal. Less than three minutes later Hannigan would pickup his second goal of the game by going high blocker, although the Marauders would get on the board senior Kris Hastings would get it right back as he would score a pretty backhand goal just 18 seconds later. JP Kelly would finish the scoring in the second period and TCNJ would take a five goal lead into the third period as well as leading in shots 31-10.

The third period went a lot like the second period as TCNJ would pot five more goals; JP Kelly would score shorthanded for his second of the game, Marc Tietjen & Jameson Dugan would score power play goals, Kris Hastings would get his second of the game on a two on one and then Andrew Lem would score a pretty goal with two minutes remaining. The Lions would come away with the 11-1 win to stay perfect in Colonial play, Nick Pontoriero stopped 15 of the 16 shots he faced but sophomore Nick Montemarano would get his first action of the season and he stopped all three shots he faced. Andrew Lem had 3 assists to go with his goal and Anthony DeAlto had 3 assists to increase his team leading point total to 16 points, TCNJ had a season high four power play goals and killed off all five Millersville power plays.

The Lions continue their homestand this weekend as they host Rowan on Friday at 8:30pm and West Chester on Saturday at 5:30pm, both games are at Loucks Ice Arena on the campus of the Lawrenceville School.
