LIONS WIN OVERTIME THRILLER!

Date:  Source: The College of New Jersey Lions

On Sunday the Lions hosted the Scranton Royals in a battle of Colonial Conference unbeaten teams and a rematch of the last two Colonial Cup Championship games. Both teams were full of energy and the first period was fast paced with chances at both ends, both goalies would stand tall and the period would end scoreless with Scranton leading in shots 12-8.

The second period started with Scranton applying early pressure and they would get on the board first when Keiran Regan finished a rebound in the crease. TCNJ would soon answer with two power play goals, first Kris Hastings would put home a rebound when a Travis Beni shot finally got through and the second was a great passing play with Anthony DeAlto finding captain Marc Tietjen in the slot and Tietjen would go high glove side to give the Lions a one goal lead. The Royals would respond late in the second when Regan would pot his second of the game on an odd-man rush, the second period would end tied at two and the Royals still leading in shots 25-23.

In what would be a crazy third period Scranton would get a go ahead goal from defenseman JJ Foster ten minutes in but Lions goalie Mike Lojewski would make a handful of big saves to keep it a one goal deficit. With one minute remaining the Lions pulled Lojewski for an extra attacker, Marc Tietjen would get a shot though traffic on net and Anthony DeAlto would smack home the rebound to tie the game with 53 seconds remaining to send the game into overtime. In the first minute of overtime defenseman Jameson Dugan would breakup a pass in the neutral zone, Dan Martin collected the loose puck to go on a breakaway and he beat Scranton goalie Dylan Euvino blocker side for the overtime game winner!

TCNJ remains perfect in Colonial play at 5-0, 2 points behind first place University of Pennsylvania who is 6-0 with 12 points. Goalie Mike Lojewski stopped 33 of 36 shots for his third win of the season, Anthony DeAlto had two assists to go with the tying goal which increased his team leading point total to 13, Matt Lojewski and Ryan Anderson also added one assist each.

TCNJ is off until Sunday, November 3rd when they host Millersville in another Colonial League game.
