Ohio State 8- Indiana 3

Date:  Source: ACHA: Indiana University Hockey

Both teams played to a scoreless first period in a frame that featured more neutral zone play than offensive zone chances. In a seemingly non-offensive first frame, Indiana controlled a majority of the primary scoring chances.

Two blown breakaway scoring looks, and an 0-2 clip on the power-play in the first period highlighted a stout Buckeye defense.

In the second period, with both teams playing 4-on-4 after matching minors carrying over from the first, Indiana’s Jack Jordan scored the game’s first goal, and his first of the season 27 seconds into the middle frame.

Less than five minutes later, the cream and crimson doubled their advantage after Everhett Grimes netted a rebound goal off a Vladislav Khrushch scoring chance.

The goal for Grimes was his second go-ahead goal of the season after he scored the game-winning goal last weekend against DePaul University.

After that, it was all Ohio State.

The Buckeyes unloaded for seven unanswered goals against Indiana netminder Joseph Stebbins.

Following back-to-back Indiana penalties, Ohio State took advantage of a 5-on-3 power-play opportunity.

Charles Klenkar opened the Buckeye scoring with 5:31 remaining in the second to make the score 2-1, then Turkish forward Hakan Salt, in his first ACHA game netted the first of what was a four-goal performance on Friday with 1:20 left in the frame.

The four-goal game for Salt was the first time an Andrew Newman coached Indiana team had allowed four goals to a single player.

Jordan Hoy, Sam Gross and Connor Lewis also found the net for the Buckeyes on Friday.

Jordan netted his second goal of the night, and the third score for Indiana with 5:14 left in the game.

Following the two early Indiana goals, Ohio State goaltender Neven Dyer proceeded to stop 12 of the last 13 shots faced.

Friday marked the first time that Dyer, who finished 7thin the nation among ACHA D2 goaltenders in saves, faced less then 20 shots in a game.

Stebbins, who saw his four-game road winning streak come to an end, made 43 saves (50 shots) in the loss.

Game two of the series begins Saturday at 6:30 p.m.

Stephen Gaisor is the projected starter in net for Indiana, Freshman goaltender Declan Rooney is slated to make his career debut in a Buckeye uniform on Saturday.
