BOULDER, CO- The Minot State University Beavers got production from three players in the goal department in the season opener.  Senior, Johl Sweldo paced the offense with a hattrick, Junior forward Adam Wowryk scored a pair, and sophomore forward Davis Sheldon also pitched in with a pair. Josh Bykowski made 17 saves in net.

Johl Sweldo got the scoring started for the Beavers early in the first period when he took a feed from Junior forward Rhett Lough and beat the Buffaloes goaltender to make it 1-0. That was the only scoring in the first, Bykowski stopped 4 shots, and the Buffaloes went 0-1 on the powerplay.

In the second period, Sean Sweeney beat Bykowski five-hole on the doorstep to knot things up at 1-1. Then on the Powerplay, Senior forward, Dylan Johnson ripped shot from the point and Adam Wowryk tipped it home to propel the Beavers into a 2-1 lead. The Buffs tied it 2-2 when Adam Trunko, went in all alone and beat Bykowski blocker side. But moments later, Johl Swedlo got his second of the afternoon, in a mad scramble in front of the Buffs cage to give the Beavers a 3-2 lead. The Beavers doubled the lead when Senior forward Kent Walchuck found a wide-open Adam Wowryk in the slot, and he roofed it top shelf to push the lead to 4-2. Davis Sheldon made it 5-2 late in the second period.

The Beavers kept the pressure on in the third period. Johl Swedlo completed the hattrick, after a nice back door pass from Kirklan Lycar. Davis Sheldon scored his second of the night on a slick feed from Sophomore forward, Justin Metcalf to make it 7-2.  Josh Bykowski stopped 14/16 in the win. The Beavers went 2-2 on the man advantage. Head Coach Wade Regier was pleased with the team’s second half of the game.

“We will definitely take the win on the road. The first half of the game was very sluggish for us, but I was happy with how we turned things around in the second half of the game. We have to be ready for tomorrow”, said Regier.

The Beavers will be back in action tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 PM. The broadcast will be available on Prostyle Production’s YouTube page.
