Tough weekend for Blades,

Date:  Source: Blenheim Blades Junior C Hockey Team

One thing is clear early in the Blenheim Blades 2019-20 Provincial Junior Hockey
League Stobbs Division season – scoring goals has been a problem.
Saturday night the Blades travelled to Mooretown and fell 5-1 to the Flags,
before returning home Sunday where they were shutout 7-0 by the Lakeshore
Canadiens before 257 fans.
In their league opener at home Sept. 15 the Blades managed just two goals, and
it was enough to beat the Wallaceburg Thunderhawks 2-1.
So far the Blades have scored just three goals in nine periods, while giving up 13,
with the line of veterans Seth Henderson, Christian Moccia and Ryan Malott being
in on all three goals – Henderson with two, Moccia one and Malott three helpers.
Malott was injured in Mooretown and did not play against Lakeshore.
Lakeshore jumped into a 2-0 first period lead on goals by Eric Larue and Jarrett
Tazzman.
Three more scores in the middle 20 minutes – by Adam Pizzo, Max Sieberer and
Matt Smith – upped the lead to 5-0, with Smith adding both third-period tallies
for the Canadiens.
Caleb Pinsonneault was in net for the first time for the Blades, and faced 42
shots, while Blenheim sent only 20 at Lakeshore netminder Nolan Hakr.
In Mooretown Saturday, early penalties called on the Blades proved to be too
much to overcome as Brock Perry scored at 1:54 with Noah Tetrault in the box,
and then after Seth Henderson tied tings at 6:10, Nolan Farr put the Flags back up
with a powerplay goal at 8:15 with Spencer Chatel in the penalty box.
Henderson’s goal was his second of the year.
Ryan Malott and Keegan MacVoy assisted on the play.
There was no more scoring in the first period with Farr and Max Steeves putting
Mooretown up 4-1 after 40 minutes.
The same duo put pucks past Blades netminder Chris DeWulf in the third to
wrap up the scoring.

BLADES BITS: The Blades will be idle until Sunday evening when they host the
Petrolia Flyers at 7...Sunday’s game was tame compared to Saturday’s as referee
Chris Harwood called just five minor penalties with three going to Lakeshore…In
Mooretown, where the Blades outshot the Flags 43-38, referee Clint Campbell
assessed 27 penalties, including a checking-from-behind and a head contact to
Mooretown players…Chris DeWulf was in goals against the Flags…The old injury
bug, that ran wild through the team last year, is back with defenceman Colton
Burniston, Malott, Connor Wright and Tyler Davis all out either before or by the
time Sunday’s game was over…Farm Credit Canada was on hand giving out
grocery bags for fans to fill and bring back to next Sunday’s game…The food will
then be donated to the Blenheim Food Bank…Sunday’s ice sponsor was SM
Freight.
