Weekend Preview: Northern Illinois

Date:  Source: Western Michigan University Hockey Club

Two days from now, the Stallions will travel to Canlan Ice Arena to open their season against the Northern Illinois University Huskies. The Huskies are making the jump from ACHA D2 to ACHA D1 this season, and this will be the first match-up between the two clubs.

Coming into this weekends match-up, both teams will have an abundance of new faces on the ice, as WMU added 13 new players this year, making up over half of the team. "I'm excited about our incoming freshmen to have this opportunity to show us the work they have done this summer to prepare," Head Coach and GM Chris Brassard said. "We have a lot of new faces, so it's very important that we all come together and understand the systems that we have to play in."

Along with all of the new faces, the Stallions are returning 11 players from last seasons team, providing a lot of experience and leadership. "We are fortunate enough to have a great returning core group of players that have led this program to the next level. We are looking forward to an exciting year and a lot of possibilities," said Brassard.

This weekends games will be live streamed on the Northern Illinois Facebook page, and you can find updates on the WMU Stallions Twitter (@WMU_Stallions).
