There was no shortage of game action over the weekend as the 2019-20 regular season got under way in the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL).
OJHL teams played preseason games over the course of two weeks from Aug. 19-Sept. 1 and the regular season officially began Fri., Sept. 6 with six games on the schedule. Of the six matches, the Wellington Dukes, Toronto Jr. Canadiens, Collingwood Colts, Burlington Cougars, Markham Royals and Cobourg Cougars picked up their first wins of the 2019-20 season.
Three games on Sat., Sept. 7 saw the Georgetown Raiders pick up win number one on the year, and the Burlington Cougars grabbed their second win of the weekend. The defending 2019 OHA Buckland Cup and Dudley-Hewitt Cup champion Oakville Blades also earned its first 'W' of the season, as they defeated the Brantford 99ers.
Winners on Sun., Sept. 8 were the Mississauga Chargers, Collingwood Colts, St. Michael's Buzzers, Wellington Dukes, Trenton Golden Hawks and Toronto Patriots.
It's early, but the OJHL scoring race has a tie at the top as Collingwood's Andrew Suriyuth and St. Michael's Buzzers forward Jonah Alexander each have five points in two games to lead the OJHL. Suriyuth's three goals also lead the OJHL.
Burlington goaltender Max Wright and Collingwood's Matteo Lalama picked up two wins each, which leads the OJHL as of Sept. 9.
Updates on games, scores, standings, scoring and goaltending leaders will be provided on a weekly basis throughout the course of the regular season and playoffs. They can be found in the Ontario Hockey Association's 'News' page.
Best of luck to all OJHL teams this season in their quest for the OHA Buckland Cup.
