Wolgast Named League Cy Young Winner

Date:  Source: Florida Collegiate Summer League

Jack Wolgast is the third Diamond Dawg to take home post-season hardware, earning the Cy Young Award as voted on by Florida League coaches and staff.

Wolgast made seven appearances for Winter Park this summer, and posted minuscule numbers. After allowing a first inning run to the Scorpions in his season debut on June 2, the righty gave up zero runs for the next 18.2 innings that he toed the rubber. After he gave up his second run on July 1st, he did not allow another for the remainder of the regular season.

A total of 24.2 innings were tossed by the sophomore during the regular season. He ended the year with a 0.73 ERA, and a WHIP of 0.57. He allowed only seven hits the entire season ... six singles and a double. He walked seven batters, and struck out 23. Some of his top performances include:

- Five innings of no-hit baseball with four strikeouts against Seminole on June 17
- 6.1 innings, 2 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 8 K against Sanford on July 1
- Four perfect innings versus the Lightning on July 13

Though voting had already taken place before the playoffs, his most impressive outing was in the deciding game three of the Florida League Championship Series against DeLand. Wolgast went six innings without allowing a run while scattering four hits, walking none and striking out nine to earn the win.

Wolgast was named to the West All-Star team as well as the Florida League Prospect team. In North Carolina, he tossed two hitless innings against the Sunbelt League.

Wolgast is transferring from the University of New Orleans to Southeastern University in Lakeland, FL for his sophomore year.
