It’s coming down to the wire.

The Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks split a doubleheader with the Mat-Su Miners Sunday to remain tied with the Peninsula Oilers for the fourth and final Alaska Baseball League playoff spot.

The Chinooks dropped a 2-1 decision in the opener Sunday before rallying for a 3-1 win in the nightcap. The split improved the team’s record to 12-25, 13 games out of first place and a virtual dead heat with the Oilers (13-26).

Chinooks starter Tyler O’Clair took the hard-luck decision in Sunday’s first game, giving up just two runs in six innings while striking out eight Miners. Mat-Su starter Kyler Bush threw a seven-inning complete game, giving up just three hits and one earned run.

In the second game, Chugiak-Eagle River got a complete game of its own as Michael Barker scattered seven hits over seven innings of work to earn his third win of the summer. The Chinooks got two hits each from Ethan English and Daniel Freeman

The Chinooks play the Anchorage Glacier Pilots Monday at 7:10 p.m. and the Anchorage Bucs Tuesday at 7 p.m. The Chinooks play the Pilots at 7:10 p.m. Thursday at Mulcahy Stadium before returning to Lee Jordan Field for a 6 p.m. Saturday clash with the Glacier Pilots.

The regular season concludes July 31.
