Danbury – Danbury’s pitching staff struggled, allowing 18 runs in an 18-8 loss to the Upper Valley Nighthawks.

In the top of the first inning, things did not start off the right way for Danbury, coming off of a thrilling victory over Vermont just 24 hours ago. After starting pitcher Emmet Sheehan walked the leadoff man Gehrig Anglin on four pitches, Anglin stole second and third before scoring on an RBI groundout by Cole Frederick to make it 1-0.

But Danbury answered in the bottom half of the inning. Centerfielder Justin Jordan doubled down the left field line and came around to score on an RBI single from Noah Dickerson. Upper Valley took the lead once again in the third inning on a two-out, two-run single by Jack Zyska, running the score to 3-1. However, Sheehan would get out of the inning with six strikeouts through three innings.

Danbury would once again answer in the bottom half of the inning, all with two outs. Danbury score their second run of the game on a catcher’s interference by Upper Valley. With Lyndon Weaver stealing home on the pitch, he was credited with the steal of home. After Noah Dickerson reached on the interference, he stole second and came around to score on an RBI single by Sonny Uliana.

Upper Valley would strike again against Sheehan to re-take the lead. With runners on first and third, Nighthawks’ Dan Bolt would steal second and advance to third on a throwing error against Danbury catcher Jay Curtis. The error allowed Gregory Hardison to cross the plate. Bolt would eventually score as it was Zyska once again doing the damage. This time, a two-run home run to push the Upper Valley lead to three.

It would be the beginning of 15 straight runs as the Danbury’s pitching staff would struggle with location and accuracy, allowing 11 walks and three home runs.

Danbury looks to go back to their winning ways when they travel to New Bedford to take on the Bay Sox in a doubleheader, beginning at 2.
