Paints Use Big Inning To Beat Miners 8-4

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - The Chillicothe Paints, presented by Adena Health System, opened a five-game series against the West Virginia Miners with an 8-4 win Tuesday night at VA Memorial Stadium.

The Miners (14-28) took an early lead in the game. A throwing error allowed the game's leadoff batter to reach, then three-straight singles and two sacrifice flies plated three runs, giving the Miners a 3-0 lead.

Chillicothe (27-15) answered in the bottom of the second with a seven-run, seven-hit inning, taking the lead for good. Collin Luty started the inning with a single. Justin McIntyre also singled and both moved up on a wild pitch. Ethan Hajdukovic hit a triple high off the wall in right-center, scoring Luty and McIntyre, cutting the Miners' lead to 3-2. Parker Murdie tied the game with an RBI infield single to shortstop. Cody Orr singled and Chris Eisel walked to load the bases. Gavin Homer followed with a single, scoring Murdie, making it 4-3 in favor of Chillicothe. Cole Andrews reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Orr to make it 5-3. Trey Smith hit the Paints' second triple of the inning, scoring Eisel and Andrews, making it 7-3.

The Paints made it 8-3 in the bottom of the seventh. McIntyre walked to lead off the inning and scored on a throwing error by the West Virginia second baseman.

The Miners plated the game's final run in the top of the eighth on Michael Piniero's single to center field, finishing the scoring with Chillicothe in front 8-4.

Paints starting pitcher Zach Kendall allowed three runs, one earned, on three hits over 4 1/3 innings, walking three and striking out three. Austin Calopietro (4-1) earned the win in relief, allowing one run on two hits and striking out five over three innings. Nate Haugh earned his league-best 10th save of the season, retiring the last two batters of the ballgame. 

The Paints plat the Miners in Beckley, W.Va., Wednesday night and then return home to play the them Thursday-Saturday at VA Memorial Stadium.
