Big Sticks Take Game 3 from Pierre in Extra Innings

PIERRE, SD - The Badlands Big Sticks took on the Pierre Trappers for the third straight night on Saturday. The Big Sticks pulled out the win 9-6 in a back and forth game that was decided in extra innings.

After a scoreless first inning the Big Sticks got on the board first. With two outs in the inning Mitch Dean was able to draw a walk. Anthony Garrett was able to drive Dean in with a double down the left field line to score the runner all the way from first base. An RBI triple immediately after by Nathan Sanders gave the Big Sticks a two run lead. The Trappers responded in the bottom half of the inning with two runs of their own. An RBI double and a sacrifice fly tied the game up at 2-2.

In the bottom of the third inning the Trappers were able to take the lead from the Big Sticks. With a runner on third base, a passed ball allowed the Trappers to score the only run of the inning to lead 3-2.

The Big Sticks responded the very next inning with a run of their own to tie the game. With two outs in the inning and Dupuis on third base a pitch kicked away from the catcher. Dupuis hustled home and slid in safely to put the score at 3-3.

In the seventh inning both teams were able to score two runs. The Big Sticks got their first runner on base when Conner VanCleave drew a one out walk. After a fly out for out number two Garrett Dupuis stepped up with a shot over the centerfield wall to score two runs and give the Big Sticks a two run lead. The Trappers responded with a solo homerun and a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 5-5.

In the bottom of the eighth inning the Trappers were able to score a run to take a one run lead. With the bases loaded and only one out the Trappers were able to hit a sacrifice fly to bring home a run to lead by a one.

Trailing by one run in the top of the ninth Garrett Dupuis started off the inning with a single to right field. A walk by Walstad would put runners on first and second with no outs in the inning. After a popped up bunt for the first out of the inning, Nathan Sanders lined a single to right field to score Dupuis and tie the game at 6-6.

In the top of the tenth the Big Sticks were able to score three runs. Michael Fuhrman singled to left field to score the first run of the inning. With one out in the inning Souza Paaluhi belted a home run that landed on the islands of Hawaii to add two more runs to the total and put the Big Sticks up 9-6. Dallas Bryan would strike out the side in the bottom of the tenth to give the Big Sticks the victory.

The Big Sticks will take on the Pierre Trappers Sunday night for the final game of the series. First pitch is set for 3:05 (MDT).
