Paints Ground Aviators In 5-3 Win

LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Chillicothe Paints, presented by Adena Health System, got a strong start from Jack Raines and some timely offense in a 5-3 win over the Aviators at Lafayette's Loeb Stadium Saturday night.

Chillicothe (26-14) took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning. Cody Orr led off with a single and scored on Chris Eisel's RBI double. Eisel went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a groundout by Gavin Homer.

Paints starting pitcher Jack Raines (4-1) held the Aviators scoreless for six innings, allowing four hits, walking one and striking out for to earn the win. Jack Huisman took over for Raines in the bottom of the seventh. 

Chillicothe made it 4-0 in the top of the eighth inning. Justin McIntyre reached base on a fielder's choice and advanced to second as Trey Smith was caught in a run down. McIntyre scored on a double off the wall by Ethan Hajdukovic.

The Paints added another run in the ninth, as Eisel walked with one out and stole second base, then advanced to third on the throwing error by Lafayette's catcher. Homer singled, scoring Eisel, making it 5-0 Chillicothe.

In the bottom of the ninth, Huisman struck out the leadoff batter, then gave up a double to Blake Schmitt. A wild pitch moved Schmitt to third and Huisman struck out Matt Mackey for out number two. Huisman walked Zach Schwartzenberger and Alex Dorethy, loading the bases with two outs. Keolu Ramos hit a chopper toward second base, but Huisman's effort to field the ball deflected it into right field, scoring two runs and cutting the Paints' lead to 5-2. Nate Haugh replaced Huisman on the mound and struck out Zach Heeke, but the third strike was wild, getting away from catcher Cole Andrews, allowing another run to score and the game to continue at 5-3. Haugh struck out Chris Monroe looking to end the game, giving Haugh his Prospect League leading ninth save of the season.

The Paints take the season series over the Aviators, they go for the series sweep Sunday afternoon in Lafayette, first pitch is slated for 3:05 p.m.
