Waves End Homestand with a Win over New Bedford, 9-4

South Kingstown, RI- The Waves capped off their homestand with their ninth win of the season Saturday night over the New Bedford BaySox, 9-4.

It was the fourth inning when both teams broke into the score column, when New Bedford struck with one in the top half of the inning. Ocean State would respond with three in the bottom half of the inning to take the 3-1 lead. The Waves rattled off four singles in a row to lead off the inning, with the last being off the bat of Dillon Morton (Tampa, FL/ Winthrop), scoring Joe Simone (Wayne, NJ/ Rider U). After a fielder’s choice put out to cut down the lead runner at home, Daniel Seres (Canton, GA/ Kennesaw St) would ground into a fielder’s choice, scoring one. The throw from second to first would be wild, allowing a second run to score on the play, giving the Waves a 3-1 lead.

The Waves would tack on one run in the bottom of the fifth, and two more in the sixth to extend their lead to 6-1. New Bedford would make things interesting in the top of the seventh, scoring three to pull to within two runs. After a run scored on a wild pitch, a Sam Henrie (Middleboro, MA/ SNHU) double would drive in two runs.

A Will McGillis (Hattiesburg, MS/ U of Southern Miss) two run single in the bottom of the seventh would extend the Waves lead back to four, 8-4.

The win for Ocean State went to Liam Dvorak (Bayport, NY/ Holy Cross), who went six innings, giving up one run on four hits, one walk and seven strikeouts. The loss for New Bedford goes to Stanley Vargas (Boston, MA/ New England College), who lasted 4.2 innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on seven hits, walking one, and striking out two.

The Waves (9-19) head to Martha’s Vineyard Sunday for a matchup with the first place Sharks (19-9) at the Shark Tank. First pitch is scheduled for 7 pm, and can be heard online via the NECBL Broadcast Network.
