Date:  Source: Sunbelt Baseball League

Brookhaven - The Brookhaven Bucks (12-7) and the Gwinnett Tides (10-9) split a doubleheader on Friday night at Oglethorpe University. The Tides took the first game 4-3 while the Bucks won the second 8-5.

GAME ONE: Gwinnett 4, Brookhaven 3 (7 innings)

Bucks and Tides were evenly matched throughout the majority of the Game 1. Brookhaven jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first on two singles and a sac fly from Cameron Hearn. The Tides tied it up with a run in the bottom of the third on Cameron Murray's RBI single. The Bucks re-took the lead with a run in the fourth and in the top of the fifth before Gwinnett broke the game open with three runs in the bottom of the fifth on Max Tracey's two-run home run and an RBI double from DeAngelo Abboud. Those runs proved too much for the Bucks as they failed to score for the rest of the game, losing 4-3.

Jeffery Jenkins (3-1) picked up his third win of the season after pitching 5-2/3 innings in the Tides game one victory.  The rising sophomore from North Georgia allowed three runs, two earned, and two walks with five strikeouts.  Jackson Hodnick (2) pitched a scoreless final inning to earn the save. On the Bucks side, Jordan Ward (0-2) took the loss after allowing four runs in five innings, including Tracey's homer in the fifth.

GAME TWO: Brookhaven 8, Gwinnett 5 (7 innings)

The Bucks jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a run in the first and second. The Tides salvaged a run in the fourth pull within 2-1 before Brookhaven blew the game open with four runs in the fifth.  With one out, Brandon Hill reached on an error by the first basemen and then stole second and third before Chase Evans walked.  Zachary Burns then came on to pitch for Gwinnett and immediately allowed a two-RBI triple from Chandler Simpson. Daino Deas then hit a sacrifice fly error that was in and out of the right fielder's glove, allowing Simpson to score and Deas to reach second. Deas then moved to third on a wild pitch before scoring on Andrew Jenkins sac fly. The Tides rallied with four runs in the sixth to pull within one. However, the Bucks got out of the jam and added two more runs on Kevin Kilpatrick's home run in the home half.

Christopher Bergmoser (2-0) picked up his second win of his season.  The rising junior from Georgia Gwinnett pitched an amazing 5-1/3 innings until he started to fatigue slightly and give up the four-run inning in the sixth. Tanner Chafin stepped in to bail him out, earning his first save of the season. The Tides starter Chaz Bridges (1-2) allowed four runs in 4-1/3 innings to earn his second loss of the season.

Both teams are back in action Monday.  The Bucks face the Alpharetta Aviators at Legion Field, and the Tides face the Marietta Patriots at home in Gainesville. Both games start at 7 p.m.
