Big Sticks Take Game 2 from Trappers

PIERRE, SD - The Badlands Big Sticks faced off against the Pierre Trappers for the second time on Friday night. In a low scoring affair, the Big Sticks were able to come out on top 5-3 thanks to a tremendous performance by the pitching staff.

The Big Sticks struck first in the game to take a one run lead. With one out in the top of the first inning Michael Fuhrman hit his second home run in two games by belting a pitch over the right field wall to give the Big Sticks the lead.

After a scoreless inning for both teams the Trappers were able to tie the game up with a run of their own. With one out in the third inning and a runner on third base the Trappers hit a deep fly ball to the warning track that was hauled in by the Big Sticks to score a run and tie the game at 1-1.

In the top of the fifth inning Fuhrman led off by being hit by a pitch to advance to first base. Fuhrman was able to steal second base to put himself in scoring position. Bryson Ford delivered with the only run of the inning with a RBI double to right centerfield to put the Big Sticks ahead 2-1.

The Big Sticks were able to extend their lead in the top of the sixth inning. Dylan Ditzenberger was able to single with one out to put a runner on first base. Ryan Walstad followed it up the next at bat with a double off the right field wall to put runners on second and third with one out. The next batter Ryan Fuhrman hit a hard ground ball that got passed the glove of the third baseman to score both runners and extend the lead to 4-1.

In the top of the eighth inning the Big Sticks added to their lead once again. With one out in the inning Ditzenberger hit a solo homerun to right field to give the Big Sticks a 5-1 lead.

The Trappers would only be able to score two runs over the final two innings to give the Big Sticks a 5-3 victory. Nick Flesher led the charge on the mound by going six innings while only allowing one run on five hits with five strikeouts.

The Big Sticks will take on the Trappers for the third straight time Saturday night of the four game series. First pitch is set for 6:05 (MDT).
