Danbury Takes Game Dominated by Pitching, 1-0

Date:  Source: Ocean State Waves

South Kingstown, RI- It was a pitching duel Thursday night at Old Mountain Field, with only one run and 11 hits split between both teams, but it was Danbury that would emerge victorious with a 1-0 victory.

It took until the top of the eighth before either team could break the goose eggs on the scoreboard. After Lyndon Weaver (Atlanta, GA/ Eastern Kentucky) doubled to lead off the inning, he advanced to third on a throwing error from Daniel Seres (Canton, GA/ Kennesaw St). After reliver Jack Ipsen (Eatontown, NJ/ Bryant) struck out the next two batters, Nicholas LoRusso (Monroe, CT/ Villanova) would single up the middle to drive in Weaver and give Danbury the first lead of the game.

Ocean State had multiple opportunities throughout the game with runners in scoring position, including the bottom of the ninth inning where they had runners on second and third one out, but were not able to score.

Neither starter would surrender a run during their outings. Waves starter Ben Casparius (Westport, CT/ UConn) went six innings, giving up only one hit, walking three and striking out five. Westerners starter Ben Vail (Cromwell, CT/ Le Moyne College) lasted five innings, giving up five hits, walking two and striking out three. Pete Bloomberg (Morrisville, NC/ Davidson) picked up the win for Danbury, throwing 3.2 innings out of the pen, allowing no runs on two hits, two walks and striking out three.

Ocean State (8-18) continues their homestand Friday night when they take on the last place Winnipesaukee Muskrats (7-17). First pitch is scheduled for 6:30, and can be heard online via the NECBL Broadcast Network.
